Lawrence ‘Detroit Bassman’ Washington
Born in Detroit, Michigan home of the musical powerhouse Motown Records, from an early age ‘Bassman’ was surrounded by soulful music which helped him develop the natural metronome within; allowing him the ability to create really good music. He is also a graduate of Mumford High School known for graduating some of music’s finest. Though his musical influences expand beyond his soul-filled roots. Artists such as Marcus Miller, Robert Wilson, Larry Graham and James Jamerson to name a few, have influenced Washington to be a leader of his generation on the bass.
Bassman’s diversity has led him to perform and share the stage with a variety of artists such as Fantasia, Snoop Dogg, Teddy Riley, Justin Timberlake, Pharrell Williams, Stevie Wonder, India Arie, Jamie Foxx, Fred Hammond, Kierra Sheard, Teedra Moses and Ray Chew just to name a few. Over the past 16 years Bassman has traveled to over 40 states and 11 countries. His audience ranges from London 02 Arena, the Tom Joyner Cruise, The BET Awards, Essence Music Festival, The Macy’s Music Festival, TV One and The Wendy Williams Show. McDonald’s Mocha Frappe commercial also highlights his musical talents. Currently, Bassman is on tour with the legendary Charlie Wilson, lead singer of the Gap Band.
